OK, we all know what it means, but is there an official way of spelling time-lapse?
Is it:
(A) timelapse
(B) time lapse
(C) time-lapse

BTW unfortunately there is no prize for the 'correct' answer ......... is there a correct answer?

Lets see what Google thinks

Timelapse: 6,740,000 results
"Time lapse": 6,510,000 results
Time-lapse: 10,100,000 results

I've been trying to push "timelapse" because it's the easiest.

I only say and speak it with the hyphen: time-lapse.

I have a variation I would like opinions on:

Time-lapse or Time-Lapse

Personally I try and use time-lapse but I end up using timelapse even though the spell checkers I use though don't acknowledge it by default.

And as far as I'm concerned, hyperlapse isn't a term

A long time between posts!

If we're going to standardize language according to spelling checkers, hyper-lapse, time-lapse, mirror-less, and thumb-wheel are all hyphenated unless you don't mind them being underlined in red. The real bummer is "digital single lens reflex camera" because DSLR is not a word either.

The only hope for a different way is if people stop trusting computers as the indisputable arbiters of truth. Any trend away from google-rule would be from fake-news, or its social media equivalent "astro-turf", which is only half right when hyphenated but all wrong as one word.

Nice to see Tom again. Thanks for the forum! Its come to mean a lot to some of us and contains what is probably the largest repository of photographic knowledge on the net, even if traffic has dwindled to a trickle lately. Time-lapse seems to be sort of a fad thing like Fantasia and the other original Disney cartoons. It gets re-discovered by each generation. Chronos, Baraka, and Koyaniskatsi were one iteration which was preceded by John Ott's films and followed by Timescapess. No doubt there will be another explosion of interest in another decade or when some new tech makes it even easier to do.

First posted Mon Apr 27, 2009 12:39 am so maybe Time-Lapsed or one of the variations with the added "d" is now more appropriate ;)

For anyone who has logged into this forum for as many years as I have and learned as much from it as I have there is only one answer...

If Tom say it's 'timelapse', it's 'timelapse'.

Wish I had thought of that. Kit gets my vote for best answer. Many thanks once again Tom!
