This probably isn't going to carry a lot of weight, but for a pan-tilt head, carrying a DSLR, it might work. You can print with flexible plastic now, which is perfect for the flexible spline. Its probably best to have the parts made on a good commercial printer which can make smoother surfaces with more detail than home machines. While searching for stuff about zero backlash speed reducers, I found this amazing test done by one of our own Timescapes members. When he turns the camera around to show how far away the laser is, you see how the positional accuracy of this thing is like what you find in big observatory telescopes.
