They are complex machines. More black magic than electronics I think.

All sorts of useful bits and pieces in there. You just have to think of something to make with them.
I've got a dust extractor for my CNC router and am waiting for a new spindle mount before sorting out a shoe to fit round the spindle so I can do some cutting without spraying quite so much crap around the place. We're still getting temperatures around 45C here at the moment so venturing into the shed isn't happening much at present. Which means I'm getting bored as well! I will be painting reflective paint onto the roof this week which might help the air-con get a grip on things so I can do some more work in there. Last month I was in the UK, walking round London in glorious sunshine with the temperature a whopping 30 degrees lower. It was wonderful! 16C so I could dress like a grown-up in long trousers and wear a blazer with pockets to keep things in! There were people lazing about in Greenwich park enjoying the unseasonably warm weather.
Also got to visit our very own Displacement1 in person. Brilliant!
So what ARE you going to build with all those bits of scanner?

I'm going nuts when I think about today's possibilities. what you can create with an old machine like yours. you shredder the housing, extrude it to a new filament for a 3D printer and then you can build a new crazy machine from scratch. with the steppers, the silver steel bars, encoder rings etcpp. thor robot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2CDeHrFr2kshredder etc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqWwUx8l_Iohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qVD_rvyHnYyou start with an arduino and finish it with a mantis on day
