600,000 macs infected with Trojan
First off, im a PC user, but I do see some of the appeal for Macs.
However, this is NOT intended for a Mac vs PC debate.
Check out this article, especially if you use Mac, it will tell you how to make sure you are free of problems. Unfortunately there is this very damaging myth that if you have a mac that you do not have to worry about Viruses and Trojans. This is just not true, the only level of protection against hackers most have used is the is that since 99% of computers out there are PC's and most hackers go for maximum damage. However with the increase of internet shopping from Macs, Ipads, Ipod touches, etc, it has been guaranteed that this would happen, and that it will continue to happen on a more frequent basis. The iOS is NOT impenetrable, and is not a problem for a skilled hacker to get right though.
this trojan implanted a virus that would gain the hackers remote access of your computer, where they would likely make some charges. if they managed to get a $10 charge to the credit cards of 600,000, that is a Six Million Dollar payday. Not to mention the possibility of large sized purchases in your name of all kinds of crap.
This is not meant to be fear mongering, but please please please if you run a Mac just make sure you run a damn firewall at the minimum and be wary of things you see on the internet. Keep your wits about you, and do NOT assume that because you have a mac that you are inherintly safe. There are 600,000 mac users who wished they were running a firewall and used more common sence.
I really dont want to see this happen to any of my fellow Timelapsers
