 Map of Members
Any way we could get a map going of all the forum members? Closest thing I can find is something like this: http://stcforum.org/viewtopic.php?id=325Although I'm not a big fan of Yahoo. Could be fun!

This is based on the Google Maps API: http://code.google.com/intl/da/apis/maps/documentation/reference.html I made this map showing some Munros (mountains) in Scotland that I hiked this winter: http://guttormsen.dk/scotland/. So who knows, might get my head in to this

 Re: Map of Members
I think this would be great to somehow add here. If anyone knows how to do it, let me know.
It would be cool if we could somehow put it at the bottom of the forum on the main page?

Hi Tom, as stated above I know how, but we need a database to hold and pick up the Longitude and Latitude of the members. Witch database is this forum based on? I´m only familiar with MS databases and MS IIS (asp) at this time, the sample on my website (link in previous post) reads the position from a XML-file, but of cause they could be read from ad DB instead. EDIT: Google actually does not recommend to populate a map from a directly DB query, instead one should build the XML-file from the DB via server side code... So maybe I will set something up on my website to test this, and maybe the map could be integrated in the front page of this site via an <iframe> tag? All we need then would be the "screen name", long and lat....

 Re: Map of Members
Sorry for digging out this old thread, but are there any news on a user map?
With over 4000 now it might be useful for meet-ups, finding locations when traveling, etc. I don't know how to implement such a thing but I think it couldn't be too difficult (maybe sth like Google Maps and then everyone can voluntarily place his mark)? Or does anyone know what happened to the old one (i am rather positive there already has been a map at some point in the past)?
Cheers, moritz

Cheers, moritz the best thing would to have something like on the couchsurfing website. A big map with members, then maybe like 'happy to show you around', 'can give information only' or something similar.

 Re: Map of Members
I started to populate a map with members and then invited others to follow suit. Cant remember where I put it or if it disappeared when we had that crash. No worries as I still have the link for my google maps site. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=216 ... f6cdfddcc2

 Re: Map of Members
How do we add ourselves to the map? I cannot figure it outGo ahead and try now since everybody i clicked on was "updated by zig"Not True ! I spent a few hours when in rehab looking for members who bother to fill out their location and populated the map to get things going. A few others then came on board. Also to correct their locations as their is no way Im going to know their exact location when eg. LA,USA was stated. i think only "unozig" can update and insert members This was only done by invitation only to stop the map being trashed by outsiders. I have now changed the setting for any body to have a go

 Re: Map of Members
what i would suggest is 1) make it compulsary to add a location to your profile (eg. city, state) 2) maybe add a way to search the forum by location

Handy if your planning a trip say and would like to make a pit stop en route.
