I see that there is a sub-forum for DSLR time lapse and also a sub-forum for compact camera time lapse. Though how about a new sub-forum for those who are using or planning to use mirrorless cameras for time lapse? Mirrorless cameras with interchangeable lenses (like the Micro 4/3rds format) are gaining steadily in popularity for general use and there will no doubt be time lapse shooters who will be exploiting the capabilities of these cameras (like myself.) Though I guess it all depends on demand. I note that the vast majority of people on this forum seem to be using DSLRs or compacts for time lapse.

I am moving away from DSLR, i replaced my Canon 60D with an Olympus OMD. Next on the for sale list is my D7000 in lieu of a Fuji XE-1

Ah I see some folks are making the transition.

Ive heard that the new Panasonic GH3 has an electronic shutter. I don't know for sure if they've completely changed the shutter system of the first G series cameras in which they incorporated two shutters into the camera design. I do get the impression that they have - in which case there's no physical shutter to wear out.

Edit: Ive just read an article about the GH3. It seems that it has both an electronic and a mechanical shutter. Perhaps you've got a choice as to which to use. Sort of like the Speed Graphic large format cameras used by press photographers back in the 1930s. With the Speed Graphics, you could choose to use the camera's own focal plane shutter or the leaf shutter in the lens.

Possibly needs a bit of distinction from point and shoot. How about Mirror-less Interchangeable Lens Cameras? Or Mirror-less and Electronic Shutter Cameras?

Maybe just add a Mirrorless camera sub forum, they are definatly closer to DSLR than point and shoot :)
