Post DP Battery - Anything Better?
Hey guys - been using a DIY battery solution for the last few years and mine s**t the bed this AM. Time to buy a "real" battery, so I am looking at just buying the DP battery for $55. I see this is 2700 mAh. Does anyone out there recommend anything around the same price that might be better?

This is theirs:

I use those, they are about the same price with about 4x the capacity. I really recommend these.

Cool, I see you are in CO, how do they handle high-elevation cold temps?

One slightly misleading thing to be aware of, in most cases the AH rating on the 12v batteries that also have 5v USB outputs, is that they will typically give you an AH rating based on the 5v power draw rating, not the main 12v supply.
So while the Amazon link is still a good battery, in reality it is probably only around 5000mAh at 12v.

I see no reason to dispute that Antz is saying. My experience so far is anytime any of these batteries have been tested out they never, ever perform as claimed.

I bought a battery off ebay for about $20 years ago when i was working on my first timelapse robot speedy. it looks like the exact same battery that DP sells, which i am fairly confidant is the same battery you find on ebay with slightly different casing.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-12V-3800mAh- ... 27cf84f955

TO be clear i have never used a battery i have directly purchased from Dynamic peception. looking at their pic and the one i have at home, they are identical, same case, and the one i have worked great for a while but eventually it had some issues with losing power. I cracked it open to see if i could fix it and the wire inside it was almost as thick as a human hair. the innards were complete junk. it lasted about a year then i finally bought half a dozen of the chinese blue batteries off ebay.

I would not use that as a reason to knock Dynamic Perception though, chances are they offer these batteries just to have a simple power solution that you can purchase along with the whole system. THe cost reflects them having to order it, have i shipped, then stock it, add it to the package and ship it out. So the extra $20-$25 is really sort of a convenience charge.

The blue Chinese CCTV 4800 mah batteries worked much better IMO, but people have tested them and found them to also be short of their claimed 4,800 mah. I suspect the DP batteries fall short as well.

I have 2 of the Anker batteries, i have not used them in extreme cold but the build quality is the best i have encountered by far by a long shot. The battery meter is not overly accurate but you can ballpark where yer at.

One more option to look at would be the new battery for DitoGear.

http://ditogear.com/store/power-cabling ... ttery.html

I would be willing to bet it measures out at 11,000mAh every time. I mean, for such a ridiculously high price, it damn well be properly labeled.
Im sure its build quality is also fantastic, despite thier claims of it being lightweight it is a whopping 2.2lbs which is over 3x what the anker battery is.

SO i still really recommend the Anker for the same price as the dp battery. better build, better battery, more power. same price

I've got a 'ravpower 15,000 mah' battery from amazon.

Doubt it's actually 15000 mah at 12 volts. I've only ran it twice on really long moves. One time it had 50% battery left after a 6 hour 3 axis move.

The second time it died after 5 hours of 3 axis movement. Temperature between 0-5C

I have a feeling it doesn't charge right. The battery was definately dead when I charged it, yet in 5 hours it supposedly fully charged (the lights switch off when done).

The manual says it should take about 10 hours to charge...

no, but it's quite expensive.. and I doubt the capacity is actually 20Ah. For the same price you could get two 15Ah batteries on ebay

Thanks everyone for your replies. I can report that I took delivery of that battery, and used it twice, and then it died. The cord socket has a loose connection to the PCB inside the case. At least since I bought it on Amazon I can return it for a refund, I was willing to try another one, but they are now out of stock. So I am back on the hunt for a LiPo battery under $75 that is better than the DP battery. I am still open to suggestions.

This one is tempting but way out of my price range.
