Post Extending camera battery life the DIY way
I am heading to arizona for a couple weeks, and wanted to get some timelapse done. I want to use my FUJI XE-1 but the battery life is terrible. This would probably work for any camera, but dont try this at home unless you are willing to risk your cameras life.

DC to DC regulator.

Check the output, this really concerned me. Fuji batteries output 7.2 volts, these WASABI batteries put out 8.2!!!

Set it to THE CORRECT voltage....

glue it together

Works like a champ. Now i can plug it into any 12v battery and run it all day long. The door must remain open, but that is not a big deal.

Very cool. Nice the regulator fits inside the fake battery. Its also possible to use this 7.4v battery without the regulator.

In which case, your fake battery would fit and allow you to close the battery compartment door.

Seems I've typed in haste again. Is it the case that the circuit does fit inside the battery shell, but the camera has no provision for a power coupler wire to enter the camera body?

Thanks for the idea,
I'll have to check if it can be done on 5DmkIII and D800 :)

These are great devices with very little heat given off. Great weekend job Jack.

Thanks guys!

James, the XE-1 does have a little flap that can be opened, unfortunatly the DC/DC power regulator is about 2mm too long for it to fit with the battery door closed. I will probably build my own to make sure it fits, but for now this will suffice. I have a trip to arizona coming up in a few weeks, and i just wanted to be sure i could power it for extended periods.

On a side note, I just got the XT-1, and that is one hell of a camera. :)
