Post RC Battery for Cannon t4i.. advice please
Hi guys.

I am trying to make a RC battery kit I can use with my Canon t4i and would appreciate some guidance from those of you that are more experienced with this.

The following is what I was planning on buying. Could you please check it out and let me know if this would work, if there are any issues with my plan or if there is anything I am overlooking please.

1. Should I plug the false battery E8 adapter I build directly into the t4i body or should I be looking at also buying a battery grip to plug it into (just in case)?

2. Are these batteries too big to fly with? if so what size should I be looking for? I read about the 2 spares allowed in carry on for a total of 25g but not really sure how that translates in Mah.

3. Are these Traxxas connectors ok or should I be looking for another type?

4. My plan was to buy a couple extra male and female connectors so I could splice onto a 4ft ext cord to make the wire longer when needed. Is this ok or is there some losses due to the longer wire I need to be concerned about?

5. Over the next year I plan to be flying and hiking through out the USA (I'm based in NYC) but I will be also going to Iceland. Will I be restricted to small batteries on International flights?

Thank you for any help and guidance
- Strype

The basics you have there look OK, but you have linked to a spare battery for your last link.
Something like this should do the job, cut the wires from the fake battery and install a connector then you have the option of using and external ac adapter of an external battery...

Also, personally I would go with a slightly higher capacity battery, the one you link to should be fine, but I like to be able to run a camera reliably for a couple of days if I need it. Perhaps just configure your wiring so you can string the batteries together if more capacity is needed.

Antz,
Thanks for taking the time to reply...

I would love to also take a little bigger pair of packs if that is possible with my air travel? That would allow me tro just pack a couple packs when I go weekend camping. Could someone please direct me in how to calculate the grams of lithium in those packs?

I have a couple of extra cheap 3rd party E8s already, just figured on making a falsey....unless there is an issues there I'm not realising beyond convenience.

Why don't you just get the AC adapter for the t4i... it's like $10-$15...

Hooked up with the DC jack already...

Then you can wire it in parallel so you can plug in two batteries or switch them...

yeah... what I did end up doing:

I ended up getting an Emotimo TB3 which I run off an Anker Astro3 battery. So I got a dc to dc card off ebay to run a parallel line and step down the 12dv from the Astro3 to a false battery.
