The Wonderful World of Windows at -30C
It gets cold here, ok? My windows are crap, ok? I get bored, ok? It gets c-c-c-colder, ok? Just thought some of you might enjoy sumthin' different ... these are still images taken with a Nikon D80 & 18-55 mm lens (best at 720p for clarity) (Slideshow #1 is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCePBtHYW1s ) Cheers Brenda

as with writing you should "write what you know" you should shoot some time lapses of a window freezing up - the challenge would be to make it look interesting, maybe using a macro lens, interesting angle, shallow depth of field. and I would probably shoot it at night with non-natural lighting, so as to alleviate flicker caused changes due to clouds etc.

ps. just looked at your site and it looks like "you haz the skillz" to get the shot - now just make it into time lapse.

Ha, I guess you noticed that I know a fair bit about frozen windows ;) It's incentive to keep them clean in the winter. And yes, I'd love to capture the formation in time lapse.. just gotta get my tripod set up in the kitchen sink and wait for it to get a little colder. -15C or so seems to be when they frost up the prettiest and it's a balmy 1C and snowy today. Thanks for the tip about artificial lighting. Wish me luck!
Cheers Brenda

Re: The Wonderful World of Windows at -30C
Bah to global warming! By this time last year, we'd had a month of -30C, either with or without windchill. This year, it's barely gotten below -10C. So I haven't had much opportunity to time lapse and have found that it's quite tricky - due to the locations of my frostiest windows and trying to artificially light them properly to get clear images through 1 or 2 panes of glass. If anyone has any tips on that please pass them along.. And if anyone has frosty windows, take pics! I'd love to see them.

Thanks to the nudge from Pixelbot and a week or so of extra cold weather, I've put together a time lapse :) http://forum.timescapes.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6707

Thanks, Gary :) I find it's just so neat to not be entirely sure what you've got, then viewing them full res and zooming way in and seeing all the intricate patterns that exist in such a small space. It's like another world - and it do be so pretty!
