Post Astro Tracking Apps
So what are a few of your favorite astronomy tracking apps that you use for setting up for astro-photgraphy? I've been trying to source the ideal spot to capture the rising moon as it crests a mountain range in the mojave. Using a 600mm Canon and it seems I'm often off. An iPhone should help so I very curious about what experienced photographers and astronomers find to the better apps.

Thanks All!

Star Walk, Moon Seeker, Sun Seeker, For seeing what is where. I use "Moon" to track the phases and SkyWeek to track events. I also use Aurora Fcst, and 3D sun to track Aurora.

I believe Star Walk costs a few bucks but its worth $100

After some recent experience with trying to do timelapse "on the run" I highly suggest checking shots the previous day for positionings and timings, depending on what you are about the photograph.

Many thanks for the tips. Derek, I will definitely check out Moon Seeker. As for checking lunar positions the day before to try and frame my shots, the moon and sun NEVER rise not set in the same position which is especially problematic trying to predict framing with a long lens. These new astronomy apps make this sort of thing sometime seem like cheating. :)

Hey Joe, Love the the Lonely Moan - stunning stuff. I presume the moon rise and set is also different based on earth location and time of year - earth tilt etc. I've had success doing some shot here in South Australia using my 1000mm lens (10" telescope) for moonrise - not that I can find the shots anywhere ?

Thank you so much. I see you compose space music. Is there a way we can hear some of your work? I would love to experience Australia's night skies one day. I understand that the milky way over the southern hemisphere is much more dramatic than the northern hemisphere.

I try my best :-) Yeah you can go here http://www.amongstmyselves.com/the-music.htm which will take you to a main menu where you can hear snippets of all my releases. Once you click on the album cover you'll be able to further click on the listen side menu. Alternative use Itunes and search for Amongst Myselves.

The Milky Way is pretty amazing here in Australia - having the centre of the galaxy above us during Winter makes for some great views. One day I'll manage to film it properly.
