If you can get one used do so

I think used DP zero you can get for around $600 or less depending on your luck.
I built a DP zero clone - did NOT save any money because I had to buy all the tools and didn't know which parts to get

However I did end up with 2 rails and 2 carts and lots of tools + parts

I'll do a write up eventually. 1030 is good because it's relatively easy to get and expand on if necessary.
I looked at slide tracked too and was really considering it.
The one thing I wish it did have was some kind of digital SMS controller so I could dial in the exact timing / speed.
I think if you got that it wouldn't be too hard to add the MX2 controller ($225 + ) / DIY MX2 ($100).
So that would be a really good option.
If you are thinking of doing 3 axis moves at all, plan ahead if you want to save $$$.
It all depends on what you're going to do but if you know for sure you'll do a lot of 3-axis, the emotimo can be the controller...
If you REALLY need 3-axis on a budget and can't find a merlin head, the all view head might be able to be used if you go about it backwards.
Currently the MX2 can't control the head, but, you could use the all view to trigger the camera, and the camera to trigger the mx2.
