Post Simple timelapse device
Hi,

I have created a simple device for acquiring time lapses. It is based on Raspberry Pi minicomputer with a special camera, capable of acquiring 5Mpix imagery (2592×1944). It is charged via miniUSB cable so you can use your regular phone charger. You just plug it in and it starts taking pictures and automatically uploading them to the server, where you can play with them, create time lapse videos, inserting music in the video, adjust parameters etc.

So you don't need purchasing pricey cameras or using you mobile (wouldn't like to miss it for a couple of days, right?) for taking timelapses.

I would like to sell this device commercially, the price would be around 50-60 USD - I wonder if people would be interested in buying such device?

Thank you for your opinions.

Adam

Good luck with your venture but to be "successful" you need begin by demonstrating its capabilities with time-laspe examples and photographs of the unit.
:D

There might be a few folks here who would buy one or two (including me) if it makes a decent quality image. Your biggest problem is not going to be designing it or manufacturing it. I have done some of that, and by far the biggest problem is letting the world know your product exists. Just listing it on Kickstarter or Indiegogo won't bring in many sales. You'll have to be all over social media, send samples to bloggers with a large following or possibly do some sort of stunt to get on the evening news (without being arrested if possible).

I can't tell you how to accomplish your publicity campaign, I am terrible at that. If you are successful, we have some more conventional stuff (mostly focus motors) that you can sell on commission. You can look at our site Stepoutmoco.com If you sell your camera successfully and have an interest, I will talk to my business partner about sharing 1/3 of the profit on everything you sell. Anyone else with a successful site and an interest, PM me.

That's not it, I'm just using this camera module in my product. What I offer is a finished ready-to-use product that you just plug in and it starts taking time lapse images and automatically sending them online.

The product looks like this: Image. Well, it is a prototype so the quality is by far not perfect, but it's ok to give you an idea.

I am going to take some samples with it and will post them here.
