Post Tokina AT-X Pro SD 11-16mm f/2.8 (IF) DX
I recentlybuy from a private this wide angle for Canon APS-C.
First test is made shotting stars from a suburban site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/agambaros/ ... il/?page=2
See images at original size (3888x2592)
Shoot @ f/2,8 and focal 11-12-13-14-15-16 mm
Left side (acceptable) his better the right side (worst). Center is good
Another note is about focus: with a Notebook and Live View I have this results. Best focal position was at max focal range: behyond center of infinity sign. I'll retry

I love this lens for star photography. It actually focuses to infinity, where as my cheap plastic 50mm f/1.8 focuses past infinity. Makes setting up shots much easier.

Hi Allesandro

So what's your conclusion? Are you happy with it? At least I am very happy with mine. All scenes in my latest timelapse (lots of stars) where shot with this lense, most of it at f/2.8 and 11mm, iso 800 and exposure times between 30 and 90s. So here you can see it in action as well. :) http://www.vimeo.com/3853904

Btw, i've found my sweetspot exactly at the infinity. I always tape it down before i wrap it up for an overnight.

Hi oyvindoyvind,
I think that for a right and full evaluation of lens isn't possibile see small image or a video.
Also my lens at 1024 pixel seems good (so for create a TL)

If you can send me some original images I can do a match.
I thinks that a perfect item of 11-16 can perform more than mine.
Alessandro

What do you think is the better lense for stars (milky way), the sigma 20/1.8 or the tokina 11-16mm? I absolutely need a new lense until next summer :-)

I'm not able to give a right reply to your question because I need to test Tokina under dark sky and create astronomical TL
Tokina 11-16 f/2,8 vs Sigma f/1,8

Tokina Pro:
Perhaps best quality
with short focal I think it can exp 45-60 sec
not a wide range zoom but more flexible that a prime lens

Sigma pro:
more fast also stop to f/2,5 (good quality for TL) but emergency until f/1,8
clear view into viewfinder / Live View
can use also to Full Frame
more cheaper
second hand is possibile to find
