Post Posts for your milapse mount and bogen tripod.
I got some aluminum, so I have posts available for anyone who wants one. Basically this post works just like your center column for a regular tripod head, and solves the problem of the meade having 3/8-24 threads instead of the standard tripod 3/8-16. I have redesigned it since the original that I use in that I added two flats for easier tightening with a wrench and a 1/2 inch hole through the flats for securing the tripod with weights/whatever.

Now I'm not 100% which tripods this will fit. It fits my bogen 3001, but I see two different center columns for sale for different models, so if you can verify that your existing center column is roughly .980" diameter, then it will fit.

I can also make different lengths. The picture below shows a 6" post, which will allow you to raise your mount up 3" and still use the hole at the bottom. I can also make some as short as 3" long, if you prefer a post that's more compact but doesn't have the ability adjust the height of your mount. Personally, I don't like taking my post off but it can be hard to fit the mount in a backpack with a 6" post on it. I will go as long as 8" which would give you 5" of height adjustment. Remember, a meade mount with camera is fairly heavy so you probably don't want to go too high with it.

So, I'll offer up a 6-8" post for $20, and the short 3" for $15. Or, a short and a long post for $30. I will include priority mail shipping with the price. Prefer paypal payments, but other arrangements can be made. If you want one pm me with the length(s) you want.

Please note that you can't see the 3/8-24 bolt in the end of this one because I didn't have time to put one in today, but they will all come with one installed.

Awesome Andrew! I've got the Manfrotto 190....

Pics attached of the center column...it's not cylindrical - do you think your mount will fit?

Thanks!

Forgot to mention, there's a little collar inside the tripod that the post needs to fit into... Thanks!

Hmm, I don't know. I'll have to try and find a tripod like that and find out if it will fit.

Hmmm...I dont have a manfrotto tripod, but out of curiousity, can't you make a flat, thick aluminum piece that has one thread size on each end?

So it would be a piece that screws on top of a regular tripod screw and then you screw in the meade mount on top of that. That way, it will fit all standard tripods.

or am I lost? I have to go fish out my meade mount to remember what the hell im talking about lol.

I suppose I could make something like that...

I think I would need to look at the legs, I suspect a cylinder would fit in the legs if it were the right diameter, just have to figure out what that particular diameter is.

As for timelapseforum's suggestion, in your case an adapter would be much easier and you could use it with your existing post. Let me know what the diameter of the top of your post is, and I will see if I can get some material.

Hey Andrew,

Sorry for asking for another version but could you make one with a 3/8-24 on one end and 3/8-16 on the other end?

I have a Bogen knock off that I have to measure.

Sorry for the lateness in reply. I just bought a Manfrotto 055XBPROB tripod with the 804RC2 head. Got it on sale here in montreal for 269$ plus tax CDN.

I'm in love with it!

Anyway, the Meade head can mount directly onto the tripod with the head removed. I haven't tried to actually shoot with it, but seems to do the trick.

thanks.

Argggg...

I just measured the column of my good-old Manfrotto(bogen) and it's diameter is about 1.125"...

Can you make a bush adapter(male 3/8-24 threads goes to Meade head & female 1/4 for regular tripod head)???

I'm unable to make any more posts, or any other parts for that matter at this time because I need to focus on my own projects.

I can't remember, I don't have that head anymore. It was a bogen pan/tilt.
