Post How about servos? Any good for this stuff?
Hey folks.

Ive used stepper motors in various projects, im always pleased with how they work, but sometimes i see a product that looks great but it is powered by servos, i've used them in model planes 20 years ago, but i havent had any recent experience with them. Are they any good for timelapse work? and how precisely can they be controlled?

Example of what im referring to is here. A Tilt system that can carry a 5lb payload.

... and is limited to 1-degree moves =)

You can get greater resolution, by not doing the external potentiometer modification, but then you lose range by the same amount. For example, in the 8:1 gearing, by not doing the potentiometer hack, you can get 1/8 degree increments, but are restricted now to 1/8th of the original travel.
