sorry if this has been covered (and i faintly remember mention of it in some post i read), but how do i remove the stop inside the DS-2000's tilting mechanism (up/down)?

ah yes. I've never done it myself but Matt Dolink pointed me to the part that needs to be removed... It seemed straightforward, I know tmo has done it as well. Hopefully he'll chime in here.

If you disassemble the upper portion you'll see it, it's a little plastic tab about 3/4" wide, just cut it off with a hacksaw and you're good to go. I know Matt had a picture of it but I can't find it.

how does the "upper part" disassemble? by popping off the silver, outer plastic cover? one has to remove the big compass knob first, i assume?
a picture would help a visual guy like me tremendously.

some people mentioned that they saw no need for more than a 90 degree freedom on that axis, but i can already see the advantage of starting a timelapse while pointing the camera down toward the ground, then tilting it up towards the crown of trees, for example, during the course of a day.
next time i'm back up in San Francisco, i'll have to take the rig into Muir Woods or some of my lesser known roaming grounds up there (Bolinas, Pescadero, San Gregorio Valley, etc.).

if only someone had come out with a decent application for motion control for this thing...i am surprised that this niche hasn't been tapped yet...i know you've been working on something, milapse, but it's strange that you seem to be the only one that is doing serious work on addressing these pretty ubiquitous mounts/controllers.

bump...

anyone have any links with a disassembly guide, or a quick how-to of what screws/panels to remove in what order?

also, while inside, are there any known improvements that can be done by replacing/tweaking anything? for example, can the gears be changed to aluminum or other metal gears for a more durable operation?

Attached is Matt Dolnik's image of the tab you cut.

I don't think you need to do anything to it, metal gears would shave particles off and you'd never find one that fits.

aha! thanks Andrew...

do you know how i remove that motor? is it just a matter of removing the nut at the center, inside of the 4 screws that also hold the camera L plate?

Hi again.
So i just got my DS-2000 and decided to take the stop thingy away.
It was actually very straight forward as described in earlier posts.
1. remove the big center nut.
2.remove the big plastic star nut on the opposite side, (be careful not to drop the little greasy plastic thing in the hole).
And also remove the "squarish" flat nut from the bolt
3. gently pull the whole package out. (don´t be scared when you realize that the kogg wheel is quite sloppy and loose. I guess it is supposed to be that, anyway mine was and I thought I messed something up.)
4. take cutting pliers and cut away the plastic stop bit, it´s not conected all the way, only at the ends.
5. Assemble everything back again, voila!

Sorry for my bad english...
