Hi guys,

My name is Guillaume, 44 years old from Paris and pretty new to the whole timelapse thing but totally into it from the first day i've tried it.

Here is the setup i've build.

Image

I've started with the Konova K1 because it was really affordable when i got it but at the time of the purchase, it was only for shooting video with nothing fancy on it.

Since everything hasn't been tested on the field, it might be not that great, the K1 is a very small slider and it might not be suitable for the weight in case of wind. I've made some test at home and it seem to be ok but the distance between the camera and the slider makes it very sensitive to vibrations. I might need to upgrade the slider later.

To motorize the slider i've been using a custom build kit for the Konova K5 (works for upgraded version of the K5, K2 & K1) and 2 stepper motors from Dongzheng. Everything is controlled by the Emotimo TB3 Black (pan, tilt & slider) powered by the classic 12v blue brick fixed with velcro on the back of the TB3.

Right now i have an SBH100 from Vanguard but i'm returning it to get the SBH300. I had some issues with the SBH100 on vertical shots.

I'm using a Lilliput 7" LCD monitor attached with a 11" magic arm to the slider or anything else with a clamp for composing the shots.

The slider is hooked to 2 Togopod Max tripod like the one used by Gunther from LRTimelapse. They are very small and light, perfect for long trekking.

Thank you for watching.

NIce setup.

I am curious what sunshade you have on the 7" monitor.

Also, here is a suggestion to getting the eMotimo lower, and unfortunately I forget where I first saw this to give proper credit. Instead of using a ballhead, just use a monopod head. The dolly track will need to be level front to back, and then you just use the monopod head to adjust for the vertical tilt of the track. This will enable the pan of the eMotimo to be parallel to the horizon, but will also drop the camera closer to the sled.

Let me know if you need photos of the setup.

Heath

Thanks for the tip, i'll try with my monopod head right away.

The sunshade is the one provided with the lilliput.

Possibly a dumb question.

I always turn off the image review on my camera as to not waste the cameras battery power.

If I used an external monitor, like you have setup, could I leave the review time on and not see much of an effect on the battery drain?

I got a crappy fabric one with my Lilliput (I also got the cheap Lilliput) and it doesn't stay on no matter what I try.

it's the lilliput for 5D, i think they all come with this sunshade.

I don't have the lilliput on when shooting so far, i just use it to make my frames and remove it when ready to shoot. I don't use the review neither but i'm just starting to using this setup, as a total noob, i'll probably run into countless problems on the field.

I am in exactly the same situation as you.

Every time I try to shoot/edit some footage, the following quote applies.
“I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.”

Hi Guillaume!

I've just received my TB3 Black and also have a Konova slider - can you let me know what spec or model # stepper motor you used or your conversion?

i got the new version of the Dongzheng motor, same as phidgets. One 5:1 for video and one 26:1 for timelapse & vertical. The konova kit comes from Emotimo as well as the TB3.

I just bought the same reference as described on Emotimo's page.
