I also posted this on the other thread about servo city parts, but since speed is discussed quite a bit here too...

I noticed they updated the info on the website for the servo city parts with this picture & saying you can add any external 5K potentiometer

Before seeing this I had already pulled the one I have apart and made a few measurements myself.
I ordered a 5K ten turn pot, ie the dial turns 10 full times from start to finish

Along with a front multi-turn reference dial that slots right over top

This means that basically I can figure out the relative speeds, then just dial up a number between 1 and 1000 to set the speed, no need for a multi-meter etc. to figure out speeds.

Awesome, I may give this a try. The multimeter works but is kind of a pain.

Thanks!!

I have done the modifications to one of the dollies I just built, works really well. Pictures on this thread...
viewtopic.php?f=31&t=3000&p=19139#p19139

I centered the dial at 500 for the neutral position, when it gets + or - 30 from this position the dolly just starts moving, and is basically going at full speed forward or reverse at + or - 250 (250 or 750 on the dial).
Gives very precise control overall, just have to figure out the relative speeds in relation to the numbers and write them all down to have on hand for a reference.

Has anyone figured out how to wire up an actual digital voltage meter to the speed control?
