I just came across some dangerous tools and Im not sure if a discussion topic was started or not yet but I thought I might just put this info out there...

These are just 3 of the many tools ive come across in the past 20 minutes...
Even though your content is marked as private (Youtube) or even not downloadable (Vimeo), you can still have these tools crawl and even get an HD mp4 copy of your content. How to prevent? If you are Tom Lowe and millions of people see your reel, it would be hard to get away with someone stealing and distributing your work. But is the answer just watermarking the shit out of your content? Or not watermarking it at all and making it public and downloadable, opening the floodgates? I have not dealt with this yet but I was just curious what everyone thought, or has anyone else seen stuff like this?

With the players that can even throw a PNG logo on top of someone elses video, the ripping, its hard to imagine a place that can protect its users. Does ExposureRoom offer such a place? Kind of curious what other people think...

This is an aspect of an open internet.
If someone was dumb enough to rip off material and use it in a TV show or a TVC without a clearance you have every right to go after them and 'bring them to justice', as the saying goes.

Now if this happens in China, well that's a different story.

Right. I think it was more the fact that I found a private youtube video which could be something for a client and after parsing it through keepvid, it pulled a 720p version of it.....

100% agreed on the open internet.

I do have some "Private" video online, but nothing that would be bad if it got out.
Anything for a client I'll always send FTP or use a service like yousendit.com

I just assume that anything that I put online has the possibility of being got at and misused. No matter what security is put in place to protect data, someone will always find a way around it. When you upload anything online you have to be aware of that. That is just the way it is unfortunately.
