Post Sony A7s WOW !!! Incredible
If you haven't seen any demo video from the A7s shot by moonlight, you have to see this.

I've been using timelapse to record sea turtles nesting at night for years, using 5D mark 2 and now 6D. I know how hard it is to shoot at night. Or thought I knew. I'm absolutely amazed it is now possible to shoot full motion video by moonlight.

The blue sky with stars thing never gets old. Love it!

Guess I've got four months to scrape a couple grand together so i can buy one of these new fangled cameras before the turtles get back here this Summer. Anyone who can afford to buy or rent one is welcome to join the expedition.

I spent most of my time watching the dancing girl. Impressive though.

that is amazing - it looks like daylight, it's funny to think that everyone wouldn't have been able to see everyone else as clearly as the camera did

This was under a full moon. On the beach with no canopy overhead, you can see pretty good once your eyes adapt to the dark, but you do not see as good as the camera does. I'm almost getting used to the idea that I can shoot timelapse at night and have it look like this. The timelapse was difficult though. No live view, and focus had to be done over a series of test exposures because you could not focus through the viewfinder because it was too dark. Being able to use live view to focus normally, possibly even using autofocus is going to be incredible. I used to borrow night vision goggles from a G-man friend so i could see the turtles emerging from the water and aim the camera at them before beginning my test exposures. Now i might not need them. I should be able to use the live view and look around using the camera.

I've rented one for the end of this month and beginning of next month so i can do some test shooting around the time of the next full moon. It occurred to me that the Miami beach party might have benefited from the massive light pollution down there. I want to see what it can do on the dark beaches up here before selling all my Canon gear to get one.

I originally bought my Sony A57 because of it's reputation for good low light performance for stills but never thought to try it's video capabilities by moonlight. Obviously the extra '5' knocks a pile off the price and, presumably, the performance but it would have been nice to try it before I sold all my Sony gear to buy a Canon 700D instead! Horses for courses, as they say. Any clues as to the lens used?

I assume the young lady in the video assumed she was virtually invisible. The mind boggles at what else you might video on Miami beach by moonlight with one of those!

I hadn't thought much about it, but yes, a lot of interesting stuff happens on the beach at night. What i do with the 300mm telephoto is far worse than this lady. I frequently aim it down the length of the beach and let it run when no turtles are nearby. When reviewing the video later, i found several different events where people made sweet love on the beach under the stars. They were timelapsed from about a mile away each time on different beaches. There was no way they expected to be photographed and no way they could see me at night from that distance. They were too small to be recognized in the video but big enough it was obvious what was occurring.

Could start a profitable blackmail business with one of these things.

Parallel venture is a website where people pay to watch.

Ha ha - I did laugh at your parallel venture idea - could be quite profitable!

All those intimate beach moments gone forever, replaced with thoughts of the low light capability of the A7s :D ;)
