Post Super Hi Vision: Next generation high definition TV
Now I will need to get a 33 mega-pixel camera to future proof my TL and a whole wall for the TV :-)

Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) (or Ultra HDTV, 4320p, 8K, 7680 x 4320 pixels and Ultra High Definition Video (UHDV)) is an experimental digital video format, currently proposed by NHK of Japan, the BBC, and RAI.

Even the Nikon D800 is not capable of delivering that resolution.
8K TVs will come on the market in about 20 years
It will use 22.2 ch sound.
Right now on the market there are only a handful of 11.2 ch receivers.

The problem with 6K or 8K is that you have to throw out 100 years of filmed entertainment. No 35mm films will play at native resolution on an 8K TV. Maybe this will be useful for IMAX, but I have trouble seeing this 8K becoming popular anytime too soon, because of the legacy factor of film.
