Post Short demo video showing engine 0.82 on a pan and tilt head
Here's a little demo video showing the latest in-dev engine version, running on a pan and tilt head. It shows basic motor/operation modes: manual control, program (shoot-move-shoot) control, and shot repeat mode with actions between the repeat shots.

It's not entirely obvious, but in shot repeat mode, it's actually shooting three videos at once, representing three different output speeds in one program: 1.875' between shots, 1.4' between shots, and .94' between shots. Linear ramping is applied to all three videos; the three speeds are achieved by repeating the exposure in each shot cycle, and calling actions between the repeat shots. The actions tell the motors to move backwards relative to the normal forward movement of the motors. So, the normal movement is 1,000 steps per cycle, and the first repeat moves back 250 steps, and the second an additional 250 steps. Of course, the motors also reset to their starting position at the end of the cycle before moving to the next cycle point.

Got a few minor tweaks left to do to the motor shafts, but I'll be starting explaining the design more on the openmoco site. Basically, that head, if one has all the parts, can be assembled in an afternoon, costs less than $500 (way less if you can make the acrylic panels yourself), has 120:1 worm gearing, and motors can be upgraded to push heavier cameras (up to 10lbs or more) easily. Right now it's pushing that DSLR (K10D) using 8 oz/in motors, and only uses 400mA during movements. Between movements nominal power draw is just north of 10mA. It weighs about 7lbs. By simply using longer pieces of extrusion, one can make it nodal adjustable easily.
