Post 2017 Solar Eclipse Time-Lapse ideas?
I was planning on doing a wide angle time-lapse for the 2017 Solar Eclipse showing whats going on at the location during it. My question is should I keep a constant exposure or try to ramp the exposure? Any ideas?

That's a tricky one! Having experienced a near total eclipse I can tell you the change in light level is probably too big for a fixed exposure, but the rate at which it changes is quite quick at times. This might just be the occasion to use automatic exposure but, unfortunately, there are no rehearsals!

Good luck, I hope you get good results whatever you try.

I plan to go as well. Because I'm not shooting for anyone other than myself, I'll probably use a handycam with a fisheye converter to record the awestruck bystanders. Mine is a Sony HDR CX-12 and it deals with changing illumination very well. On these camcorders, a 0.3x fisheye converter makes about 180 degrees in the diagonal so you get the widest possible view while still having a rectangular picture similar to a 16mm lens on 35mm SLRs. If you use a DSLR, this may be one of those times to use "Auto"?

What about shooting the whole thing on a camcorder then speeding it up in post? You'll have infinite flexibility in adjusting the effective framerate with the advantage of being able to change it in the editor until you are happy with the effect. The runtime of my camcorder is a couple of hours on a fresh battery.
