Post subject:  timelapse slider as carry on luggage on a plane??

Hi,
I have built a DIY timelapse slider and would like to travel back to Ireland from France with Ryanair and am hoping I can take it as hand luggage as it fits in a small suitcase.
A friend told me that I would not be allowed. It is made up of 50cm long metal tubes and looks kinda dodgy broken down...
at the bototom of the page you can see it broken down:

Any ideas or suggestions? :-)

Maybe contact the airline first to ask?
I have not heard of people having problems with other tube based sliders though.

check with you airline. from standpoint of FAA as much as I know, if it is packed in a bag - should not be problem, but I honestly would not try to have it in carry on, unless checked with airline. As for tripods, general rule is - if it fits in you bag - you can carry it on.

slider is somewhat longer than the general carry on item, thus they can decline and make you put it in luggage on boarding anyway, unless you buy a seat for it like musical instrument.

I don't know about Europe but I have flown through US and Asia no problems with it packed.
I also flew to US with slider as carry on no problem.
