For someone with little photography experience and no timelapse experience, I would recommend these;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brinno-Construc ... 35ca46bda5http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brinno-TLC200-T ... 540623a629If you can, use several showing the build from different angles. Don't trust them too long. Change the batteries and move the files to your computer often. I had a dozen of their original camera and many stopped working after a few months. Leaving them outside in Florida's tropical storms and hurricanes may have exceeded their designers worst expectations.
There are more advanced systems using digital SLR cameras, uninterruptable power supplies and wifi cards in the cameras that download each picture to your computer. You could read through the numerous forum posts and learn about the different configurations and housings put together as DIY projects by various Timescapes members.
Several Timescapes members have businesses that provide cameras, electronics and housings for projects like yours. You could try sending a PM (private message) to Digisnap Mark, or Photosentinel asking about parts or a complete system. They would be more reliable and produce higher quality imagery than the little Brinno, but would cost more as well.
