I started shooting the occasional timelapse about a year ago but am now looking to do it more seriously.

Below are a few examples of what i've done already which were all shot in Jpeg and have not been deflickered (mainly as I cant afford to pay for software and am Mac based).

I am now looking to start shooting RAW and am interested in city scapes and astro time-lapse in particular.

Any hints and pointers are very welcome, can't wait to become more of a part of this community.

They all have flicker issues so if anyone has a frugal way around it i'd be over the moon to know!

Hello and welcome - in order to embed youtube links you need a youtube.com URL not a youtu.be link.

So what camera are you using because on a cannon you can lock the iris using the twist lenses method (there are several thread related to that method)

Nicely framed shots. As far as flicker is concerned. There's little you can do for the jpeg frames you've shot. If there's a Mac version of Virtualdub then you could search for a deflicker plugin for that. Basically the way to avoid flicker is not to use an Autoexposure mode unless you are using raw camera files which you will then process in LRTimelapse or the RAWBlend section of Panolapse. If you are not attempting to do a sunset into street lights type shot then using a fully manual mode will avoid flicker from the cameras automatic exposure changes and as pixelbot mentioned you have to avoid the two other issues which are shutter flicker and aperture flicker. Shutter flicker can usually be avoided by using an exposure below 1/50 second and aperture flicker can be fixed with the tape over the contacts trick. I've found that good quality lenses are less of a problem with aperture flicker but I still avoid it as it will shorten the lenses life I'd imagine.

Compact cameras have less of the flicker problems from aperture and shutter because of their lens size. I originally started with an Olympus C7000 which was great. It never flickered in 200 shots. Though I always used it in manual mode.

Anyhow, I hope that hasn't depressed you too much. Read the article and do some experiments.
