I'm looking for suggestions and advice for this situation:

- I have a great angle for the next year overlooking the largest construction project in NYC (Hudson Yards Project) that frames some other important landmarks as well..
- 2 day test capture:

- I am using a GoPro Black on Wide 12MP 60second increments.
- I am technically inclined but virtually 0 experience in photography.
- I can only shoot inside (glare problem with indoor lighting).

If you were me and were planning a 1yr TL shot, how would you approach a 1yr time lapse under these conditions?

Thanks in advance!

Make a black paper hood that goes all around the lens and fills in up to the glass to stop reflections off the glass. The idea is to make a little black "room" with the camera in it so lights in the larger, "real" room don't cause unwanted reflections. Make the support for all that stuff much stronger than you think it needs to be. You don't want it to move partway through the shoot.

Rig some sort of wall power for it and run that from a Uninterruptable power supply (UPS) normally used for computers.

Use the wifi to download the images frequently to check for problems.

Do another short test run after setting up all the stuff.

Use a second camera as backup on a completely independent rig if you can afford to.

Hi kierlerrr,

You certainly won't need to capture as often as you have done on your test. Although it looks great for short-term activity (particularly the cranes dancing back-and-forth and the cars darting past) the construction work is bound to take a lot longer to show visual change.

I'd suggest perhaps one frame every 10 or 15 minutes to cover key activity and show the building going up nicely. Just be aware, even at that rate you might still need to drop frames out of your final edit for periods of inactivity!

Hope that helps a little.
