Hey guys I'm going to try and go for a day to night time lapse. What do you suggest that I use for a filter to remove flicker in final cut.
Also what are some tips before hand.

I'll most likely shoot my time lapse at 18mm @ 2.8

should I shoot raw or jpg and if I shoot raw how do I convert it into a time line? I use to just shoot jpg time-lapses and use quicktime pro to make a timeline can anyone give me some tips.

Good luck with this. I think that's sort of the holy grail of timelapse to be able to shoot day to night timelapse without any flicker.
The problem you have in doing this is the exposure differences between the daytime shots and the nighttime shots.
Example - your daytime (sunset) exposure may be f8 @ 1/250 sec but your night time exposure may need to be f2.8 @ 10seconds.
I haven't figured out a smooth way to transistion between the two settings but I'll be interested in seeing what others have to say.

If you look at all the masters here such as Tom and Milapse and you will see they do lots of daytime stuff and lots of nighttime stuff but I personally have never seen any day to night transition stuff except for the occasional sunset stuff that eventually fades to black as the exposure goes too short.

But basically if you do anything other than bulb ramping of cross-fading you are going to need a good de-flicker application, and maybe speed up the source footage as well to help average out the frames a bit more.

I'll normally use GB deflicker, but also shoot at about 3 x the frame rate I want for the final shot, so I can speed up the final video in post to average out the frames even more by blending the frames.

The best currently available DSLR method though would have to be bulb-ramping I would say, check out the threads about the "Little Bramper"

Shooting raw vs. Jpeg does what? Someone told me to shoot raw, import into lighroom fix images and export out as jpgs then into quicktime for a timeline, what is your take? Keep in mind Im a fcp user

Yes, you just import the photo sequence (raw or jpeg) straight into after effects by opening the first photo in a sequence.
