Post CF cards 60mb/s 90mb/s ???
Hey everyone, still fairly new to time lapse but I am in love with it. The problem I am now facing is card space and speeds. I am shooting with the canon 7D and the biggest problem I am facing with my time lapses right now is card space. I like to shoot raw for the flexibly in post, but of course the obvious problem occurs of space. So my question is with all these cf cards out there I want to buy a large one, but what speeds can handle raw shooting and at what intervals? Any suggestions, are most people shooting in raw or jpeg?

Also is there a cheaper solution out there to do a motion time lapse on a low to no budget?

A 600x or 90mb/s will let me shoot full raw at 1 frame per second on the 5D2 no problem.
I use 32gig cards mostly, seem to be plenty of capacity for almost anything.

If you look under the motion control dollies section there are lots of inventive solutions for minimal cost if you are adept at building things.

Kinda late but you might wanna check out the latter part of this thread, especially pg.2 for some numbers:

If all you are concerned about is taking single unbracketed exposures, I believe majority of the internal/remote intervalometers out there are NOT sub second(ie. smallest interval is 1s), hence a 60mb/s card is more than sufficient. It is only an issue if you intend to take bracketed exposures when the issue of write speed arises.

I can shoot 1fps even with my 400x (60mb/s) Transcend 32Gb cards on my 5D2, so the 7D should have no problem with this speed too.

Best Regards
David
