Taken in the Forest of Dean in the latter part of April. Experimenting with a Dynamic Perceptions Stage Zero system fitted with a 25RPM drive motor. The faster motor is more suited to video than the standard 8RPM time-lapse motor. The sequence includes clips with the rail set at approximately 30 degrees from horizontal whilst zooming and focus pulling, horizontal tracking whilst zooming and ending with straight tracking across a small stream. |

Nice one Mike!! very nice change of focus and zoom. How did you managed such smooth results, did you have someone helping? Were you using any follow focus? What zoom lenses were you using? I also been testing my new motor and using the Okii USB follow focus to change focus, its great cos you can save focus up to 4 focus points and then change between them at a press of a button. Great stuff, the endless wonders of the Stage Zero

Great stuff, the endless wonders of the Stage Zero My helper was Sony  My video camera can be set-up to do A to B transition shots. It needs to be set to Auto mode then zoom, exposure, focus and a few other parameters can be programmed into the A and B positions. The transition can be varied from 3 to 90 seconds, the transition is independent of the dolly move but with a little experimentation and practice some interesting moves can be performed. The lens is the the Sony G-lens with a x20 optical zoom range with a 35mm equivalent of approximately 29-500 mm. Your Okii sounds interesting, I have just received some gearing and hardware so the next rainy day I shall look at re-building the above set-up - maybe MikeA. |

Hi, Jay, Good to hear it was useful, I used a home brew controller for that sequence,Maplin motor control board I think, so that I could ramp the dolly start and stop speed. MikeA. |

Those are some amazing moves. Its almost creepy to have all this beautiful nature and serenely slow MOCO in a shot where the extreme moves are trying so hard to excite me. Its like throwing a kegger in a library. You're setting the bar awfully high for the rest of us. Please forgive my naive question, but.... The focus and zoom were done in-camera? You set the beginning and end points and the speed to move from one to the next? Does the entire shot need to be scripted, or can you program a slow zoom with ramping and play it back whenever something zoom-worthy happens? What kind of cameras do this? Maybe I've been spending too much time with my DSLRs. Wait! I just noticed what thread we're on. Its in 3-D as well? The cameras converge as well as focus and zoom? Would you be interested in trading your rig for my house? Totally awesome shots Mike. |

Hi, sorry to disappoint with the 3-D I posted in the wrong forum section  Focus, zoom and exposure can all be done in camera, time-settings are from 5 to 90 seconds (5, 10, 15, 30, 60 and 90 ) if I remember correctly. Ramping is linear or S -curve. You can run A to B or B to A, settings are lost when camera is powered down. A down side is that the move has to be triggered by pressing a small button, ok with a decent video tripod, but can be tricky when mounted to a dolly. Some sort of remote plunger might be possible, unable to trigger via LANC sadly. The Transition function is buried in the menu system and warrants a two liner in the manual. The camera is a Sony FX1000e (Europe) and is quite cheap. It uses tape but I have a Sony compact card unit that I use, still requires a tape in the system.
