Post first night timelapse
Hi there,

I recently got interested in timelapse photography, found this very informative forum and now I have tried it for myself. It's the nightsky over Germany from 05/12/08 to 05/13/08.

Shot with
Nikon D40 + Sigma 15-30mm + Nikon Camera Control
30sec exposure per frame

it's quite dark, so better watch it fullscreen :)
720p download avaiable

Comments and critics very welcome!

::Edit
ok, somehow I don't manage to get the vimeo link right, so here's the url for now, sry!

varjohukka, welcome!

Did you shoot these RAW or JPEG? If RAW maybe try increasing the exposure?

Really nice music. What was that?

Yeah, it's very dark...I shot in jpeg. I put the camera on the roof and the only small computer I had to run the software on was an old notebook with usb 1.0. Transfering the raw pictures just took too long.

I'll have to plan it better next time so that I can use raw's for the timelapse :) I'm just an amateur.

Hey, thank you! The music is made by me. I wasn't sure if vimeo deletes videos with commercial music, so I wanted to be on the safe side.

Btw, your videos are absolutely amazing!

Cool music, especially that you made it. I don't think vimeo has a problem with commercial music, I use it in all my videos, I just credit the artist at the end. It's not like I'm profiting from anything. Besides, the most-viewed video on that whole site was made by vimeo staffers and uses a song they probably didn't get permission for.

Well, I have three additional tracks up on myspace, but I have never managed to finish a piece longer than ~3minutes :) It's just a hobby.

It's nice to hear that you guys like it. I put the whole track up on sendspace. Download and use it if you like, as long as you give credits. I'd be honoured. It's an old track though and I knew nothing about mixing and mastering back then, so don't mind the sound.

Thanks!

Hm, long exposure in a city environment and a flash video encoded from an already compressed mp4...but yes, mainly because the source files themself aren't exactly sharp.

There's always room of improvement, so I hope I'll do better next time.
