Post Moon
Hey Tom, maybe we should have a timelapse test video forum to separate the good from the tests once this board gets huge.

I had tried shooting the moon the last 2 nights with my 40D & 100-400 L IS but no matter what I did the picture was jumping up and down and ruining my shots. First I thought it was my flimsy panning tripod was not stable for the mirror slap so I tried my Heavy Bogen knock off tripod but the same thing.

Then last night I tried it again DUH ! I freaking had the IS on. After that is was fine.

Shot with my 40D & 100-400 L IS, M mode, ISO 200, F6.3, 1/160, but forgot to set WB but it seemed fine. It looks like I just panned across a picture though. Besides the 16x9 crop I digitally zoom in about 25% by the end. I also hit the tripod at the start.

Joey, very cool. I didn't know you had one of these bad motherf'n lenses!

Yeah, IS off. WB set. On a 40D, this lens is acting more like 640mm, so you might want to try mirror lockup? I've never tried mirror lockup myself, but I've always been curious to see how that might work with timelapse. I think past 400mm mirror lockup is recommended.

Yeah, at some point I will make a "work in progress" sub forum to post test shots, failed shots, etc. So much of timelapse is trial and error that it's very valuable to post the stuff we messed up, so others can learn as well.

Thanks Tom, its a pretty sweet lens untill I can afford a suuuuper tele.

Andrew I still haveen't figured it out I just found the right agle for it to pan across the frame. I think it would be awesome to track it like you said but I allready lost my instructions , probably my 2 year old hid it.
