Post Samyang 8mm T3.8 UCM exif data is not correct - canon 600D
Hi!

Just bought this lens for testing (very good results for the price), but when I copy the capture files to the computer, I get from the exif data a focal lengh of 50mm and no information about the aperture that the photo was taken. I saved the files in different formats, but the results are the same?

During the timelapse capture I did change the aperture value, since I was working in manual mode

I used exiftools to modify the focal length to 8mm, but how can I retrieve the aperture value of the photo, when it was taken?

thanks

:(

Are you sure that EXIF data is even available from the lense?

I have the Samyang 14mm and I know it records the focal length as 50mm (Canon mount), but can't recall whether I have aperture values or not..

Unfortunately you can't; not that Im aware of. Both my Samyang 14mm and Rokinon 8mm report an aperture value of 0 - which means it isn't being communicated to the camera (Canon) :-(

They also report a Focal Length of 0mm.

Cheers,
Leon

ok thanks for the follow-up, so:

kmatm
It does records the focal lenght as 50mm, but shouldn't record it as 8mm?, since it's a 8mm lens, or I'm saying something silly?
One thing is the focal lengh another is the diameter mount, correct?

It doesn't record the aperture information: f:0, or n/a depending on the software the same happens when unscrewing the canon zoom lens.
I don't know if the EXIF data is available for the lens.
mail sent to them, still waiting answer.

In a canon 600D this specific lens does record the focal lengh as 50mm

neilp1
that are tons of images on the web with this lens, just google a little.
regarding this lens and canon and nikon cameras
these 8mm lens are designed for canon aps or nikon dx sensors.
In a canon aps you will get 167º degrees in a nikon dx 180º degrees

Anyone that have a solution or info about this, mutch appreciated.
The silly thing thing it's my first time using the full manual mode, and I never expected that the aperture information wasn't recorded.

I don't think this information is available to the camera (Canon mount at least) - hence recording 50mm as the focal length, and 0 as the aperture.

I have the 14mm and as far as the body is concerned it is the same as having no lens on at all. Fully manual. No electrical connections.

Sounds like somebody put an AF confirm chip on it - these typically report 50mm f/1.4 in the exif

With one of these, if you half-press the shutter and shift the focus, the AF point will blink/beep when you are in focus

I guess manual doesn't computer for you, there is no connection to the electronic and Canon show 00 and puts a default 50mm in the data...doesn't mean anything ..
I have the 14, it has ED glass and reviews plus myself rate it very sharp and works great .. If it is important write it down, but in my case I run at 2.8 on timelapse all the time
and know that is where it is set to reduce flicker...just think about it...Canon$2400 and the Samyang $370..you have to give up something, I'm glad it's the electronics new the glass.
It's works great on the 5DmkII
Don
Note: the focus is so smooth you need to use painter tape(no sticky left) or it creeps an 1/00 of an inch will effect focus be aware.
