I'm currently working on a project for a company as a timelapse shooter.

I edit on PC

I process each shot (LR timelapse etC), and render out using AE 2 versions of each shot. a 1080p quicktime (photoJPEG codec) and a 4k cineform avi file

The 1080p file is just for reference, while the 4k cineform file is what I then import into Premiere to edit together the final film.


The client I'm shooting for is a mac user (she edits on Adobe Premiere CC on the mac)


She wants to edit 4k files, what format/codec should I deliver all the 4k shots to her in?
(quicktime photoJPEG, animation, etc....

Dpes anyone have any experience in going from PC to mac with 4k files?

Am I right in saying a mac will not recognize cineform .avi?

Can you render .mov files using the Cineform codec? If you both have the codec installed then it should work fine. Macs can read NTFS formatted drives so that won't be an issue.

I find Premiere CC is very good at handling all kinds of codecs and always seems to be able to edit in real time. You should also make sure the edit machine has plenty of RAM (24GB works for me) and a very fast hard drive to store the media on. A RAID is preferable but SSDs are also an option.

Cineform is the way to go. Tom Lowe introduced that a few years ago.
