Post Help with Vimeo and Youtube degradation
I'm having trouble with some serious loss of quality when uploading to Youtube and Vimeo. I understand that there'll be some loss of quality, but I seem to be getting a ton. This is kind of annoying as the video is meant to be showing off the resolution of the camera!

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Here's the degradation in resolution. Each one is 1080.

You can see full videos at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZeyQjoRD-k and https://vimeo.com/108964145

Export settings were: H.264, 1080p, VBR 2 pass, bitrate 80 Mbps

Matt

I have the same problem. I'm not satisfied with my results on Youtube @1080p.

I get the feeling that some are getting a much better quality than I do. So there must be some tricks to it. Unless Youtube are operating with different bit-rates for different accounts.... (?)
I could try to upload a larger file with higher bit-rate, but I seriously doubt that it will get significantly better, since it already looses that much quality.

Yes, it's very frustrating when you can see some videos with much sharper resolution! I think I'll just put a note in the description and suggest people download the original on Vimeo if they want to see it in full quality.

Hi, Matt, for Vimeo see Help page. Compression: https://vimeo.com/help/compression

Quote:
Bit rate

Bit rate (also known as data rate) controls the visual quality of the video and its file size. The rate is most often measured in kilobits per seconds (kbit/s). If your video editing software gives you the option, choose a “variable” bit rate and set the target to at least 2,000 kbit/s for standard definition (SD) video; 5,000 kbit/s for 720p HD video; or 10,000 kbit/s for 1080p HD video.
Quality Bitrate (kbit/s)
SD 2,000 – 5,000
720p 5,000 – 10,000
1080p 10,000 – 20,000

Maybe bitrate 80 Mbps is giving Vimeo too much work to do ?
