Hi all, what an awesome forum! I found out about this place after interviewing Michael Rissi about his time lapse videos for my blog. Here's the link:

I work for the Travel Channel as an Editor / Producer. I also hold Apple Trainer Certifications in Final Cut Pro 6, Motion 3, and Color. I've blogged extensively about the 5D Mark II which is what got me into HD time lapses.

I hope to serve as a good resource for people interested in learning more about editing, motion graphics, and color grading their time lapse videos. I'm also very interested in helping to push the boundaries of manipulating time lapse photography at 2K and 4K resolutions as well as editing documentary films, etc.

Can't wait to learn more and more about this art form and help everyone with their projects as I can. I've posted a few tutorials to my blogs that may be interesting to people learning to edit with FCP. Here's a link to them:

Welcome! Maybe you can shed some light on the most common question related to FCP: How do you 'de-flicker' problematic footage in FCP or Shake??

Hi MiLapse, huge fan of your work! My knee jerk reaction is to to suggest:

Effects > Video Filters > Video > Flicker Filter

However, show me some footage and maybe there are some additional tricks I can recommend.

Hey thanks. 8-)

That's it? I only ask because we get that question here and there, but many of us are working with windows based editors...

Hey Peter, Cool you're here, I am the one you interviewed :-) ! I am actually just getting into FCP on one of the student accounts at my university. Played around a little and found it pretty confusing... I guess I'll get a lot of wisdom from your blog!

Maybe chroma smoothing would help, or isolating an RGB channel and applying some blur. I'd be happy to run a test and post a fcprose tutorial walkthru of what I figure out if anyone would like to post source files to an ftp.

Awesome Michael, thought I recognized your avatar :D

Check out my fcprose tutorial for a complete edit - color grade - compress for vimeo walkthru. Let me know if there's any additional stuff you or anyone else would find helpful, especially specifically related to working with time lapse image sequences, etc.

Welcome!!

I'd love to be able to shoot some timelapses of the monuments around DC. Great location.

Peter, can any of the Apple programs ingest CR2 RAW images? AE can do it, and obviously Photoshop can.

While I'm not an Aperture user, looks like it kind of works but is waiting for an update:

Hey Peter, I'm Jeremy from Baltimore. I'm trying to reach out to folks that are local so I don't feel completely alone in my Time Lapse obsession. I am currently collecting lots of footage to compile into a short film lapse, so hopefully I'll get it posted before the world ends in December. Speaking of the apocalypse, anyone planning on doing a TL of that? Could be really cool...
