Post OpenMoco MX2: Open-Source TL Integrated DC Motor Driver
Ok, so the beta run of boards will be in my hands in a few days and they should be good, so I thought I'd go ahead and share with everyone the details on the OpenMoco DC motor driver.

It's an Arduino shield, based on the Arduino MotorShield 3.0, well, at least the driver portion is.

DollyShield Features:

* Arduino "shield" (requires Arduino board)
* 2x DC Motor Speed/Direction PWM Drivers (Up to 1A)
* 1x 1/8" TRS Plug for isolated camera connection (focus+shutter)
* 1x Camera exposing LED
* 2x 1/8" TRS Plug for auxiliary I/O (Hardware Serial, Digital 2+3)
* * Can be used for encoders, limit switches, serial communication other boards, etc.
* 1x 16x2 LCD for display
* 5x Momentary pushbuttons
* 2x DC Barrel Jacks for Motor Hookup
* 9v-12v supply voltage
* Compact: 3.85x2.7"
* Low-cost

MX2 Dolly Engine Features:

* Alter any setting on-the-fly
* Easy start/stop mode
* Manual motor control
* All basic control from a single screen

* Camera Control
** Intervalometer
** Focus Trigger
** Shutter Trigger
** Exposure Delay
** Focus+Shutter link (for Nikons)

* Easy Motor Control (speed/direction)
* Speed in percentage or inch-per-minute
* Continuous Motion
* Slow Motion Modes
** Enables far slower speeds than PWM alone
** Pulse for continuous slow mode (target average speed)
** Shoot-move-shoot to move between exposures

* Adjust LCD backlight from software
* Turn off LCD entirely after inactivity
* Complete configurability with five buttons

You can read more about the shield its self, download schematics, etc. here: http://openmoco.org/node/212

You can read the firmware docs here: http://openmoco.org/node/204

To do it yourself without an etched circuit (protoboard, breadboard, etc.) it would cost about $40 in parts and another $30 for an arduino. The retail version will work out to around $50 for a kit version, and $80 for an assembled version - + $30 for the arduino makes it around $80-$110.

Excellent, sign me up for a pre-order on the kit if you have a list. Otherwise I wait in hope of news.

Would the board/Ardurino be available separately to the Dolly system which is being made by DP?

Yup, after pre-orders are handled, each part will be available on an individual basis, even cart/dolly parts.

Hi ALL,

Need help,

I have ordered DollyShield via my brother (It has no arrived yet) and also ordered Arduino Duemilanove with 328 chip, which is here and I wanted to upload "release-0.81.tar.gz" firmware but there is an error:

"MsTimer2'has not been declared"

What do I wrong?
What should I do for properly working?

I think it should work just with Arduino (upload)..

I am total beginer in this kind of programing so I followed step by step instructions but did not find any comment or link about this question.

(I have already installed Arduino IDE and connected to PC and try another sample and upload worked well, Arduino also (I think because led's blinking)

so what is the right way to upload "release-0.81.tar.gz"? ( download from here: http://openmoco.org/node/213 )

Thanks for help.

EDIT, problem solved :)

just have to download 3 more sofware and paste those files.....

now waiting for DollyShield.....
