Post Should work, No?
Hi guys,

Been doing some reading on here and wanted to know if this would work. From my understanding it should just want to make sure.

WITH THIS

I already owned the goal0 and ordered the AC adapter yesterday. I've also seen some using other types of 12v batteries such as RC/CAR batteries, is there a plus to going that route instead? Obviously it depends on how much I'm going to shoot. But for the normal over night stuff will the goal0 be enough?

You still need to convert your 12v DC to about 7.5v DC for your camera.

The solar panel package looks pretty expensive overall. There are a lot of cheaper options available if you buy individual components.

Isn't this the job of this little guy?

If not I'm confused. I have a AC inverter running off the goal0 which I intended to plug the ACK-E6 into.

If you use an inverter to get AC that will work, but you will lose about 40% of your power converting it from 12vDC to AC back to 7.5vDC again.
It is way more efficient to use a straight DC-DC converter to go straight from 12v to 7.5v.

Any suggestion which to use? I did see one on the forum but out of my price range. Thanks

You need to be able to supply about 1.5amps to the camera continuously for long exposure shots etc.
So 7.5v @ 1.5amps = 11.25watts
Add a bit more for manufacturer exaggeration and safety so around 15-20 watts would do it.

Something like this should probably also do it.
It generally pays to actually check the voltage with a meter first on anything you build before connecting it to your equipment. Some regulators will put out higher voltages than stated with no load on them.

Think I'll go for this one. Thanks.

Antz,

So I finally received the adapter you suggested I order. I'm assuming I need to mod this thing to output 8.2? Tried with 7.5 with the adapter and it wouldn't turn on the camera.

7.5 should work just fine if the polarity is correct and the connections are good.

Also, if you are using the round DC plugs and sockets like the ones above make sure they are the right size.
A 2.5mm plug will fit a 2.1mm socket but not connect a lot of the time.

Thanks Antz! Polarity was the problem. Working like a charm.
