Post AUSTRIA - ÖSTERREICH
Hi everyone!

I wanted to start a thread for all time lapse enthusiasts from Austria. I live in Salzburg at the moment and started shooting time lapses less than a year ago. Since shooting often involves long periods of waiting around and killing time I'm also looking for people who want to do some shots together. So, all Austrians, feel free to post whatever is on your mind here like crazy - our community here is still super-small and we should get connected.

That's pretty close, yeah. The alps sound good. Actually, right now I'm trying to get some night-shots from higher altitudes (at least 1.000m if possible). Still looking for good locations too. Those were my last few shots which give you an idea of what I'm looking for:

Suggestions for locations?

maybe kaprun... i'd like something in high altitudes or with water..

but i don't know where you can get high above ground without walking too much or without even needing a chair lift... i rely on you about location in austria :D

i also love the element of water and the use of reflections. looks like we are after a pretty similar scene, that should work out then.

kaprun sounds good although it's not particularly dark there...
http://www.blue-marble.de/nightlights/2010
so probably no amazing starry sky but that's ok.

if we want to use the lake something similar to this might be nice:
http://www.panoramio.com/photo/19360936
http://www.panoramio.com/photo/22025172
...assuming we shoot southwest for the nice stars and planets (orion, venus, jupiter)

i like to shoot the day-to-night-transition - so we could start out in the evening and shoot into the night. how does that sound?

btw - I don't have a dolly slider yet but when i saw your clip... well, it makes me want to have one even more ;)

how do you do your day-to-nights? bramping or aperture priority??
i have done d2n only with manual regulation of ISO/aperture/shutter... didn't turn out so good that i would do it again like that :D

i'm definitely into shots like you postet from zell am see... but not locked down to it... that's what i meant with "i rely on you in terms of location"
i don't know austria that good in order to have 5 spots in mind right away...
but with a little research after work it could be better :D

otherwise i would just drive to a spot you tell me...

maybe we could talk on the phone, too... i think it would make it much easier to get together soon?!

Day to night can be a bit tricky in the beginning, indeed. Also later on actually :)
I use magic lantern's bulb ramping with my 5D Mk ii and have decent results except for one tiny problem - white balance.
Either I set it to manual, which is good for less flicker but if the light source's temperature changes too much I get weird results (very blue or red colors)
Or automatic, which I prefer for the look of the colors but it creates more flicker. This was shot in automatic mode and you can see some flicker in it:

yeah there is some flicker... but it is PRETTY decent.... far less than i've seen on aperture prio shots...
looks great!

The video above is after deflickering with LRTimelapse though. Plus I actually tried to manually correct a few frames that were still too much off.

But when shooting with manual WB, the shots are almost flicker-free like this one:

Yes, exactly. You donate whatever amount you want and he sends you the download link. Works without problems so far.

What is this you are refering to here?

But first:

Servus!

I'm from Munich aswell... well, at least living here since a while. I'm curently traveling but I'll be back in mid April and might be wanting to meet up with you, if you want

(Have a DP and a emotimo TB3, but only a pana GH2, but with some neat lenses. dreaming since one month from a mark3 ;)

however, I'm into timelapsing also just since a year, even though my first timelapse (my 5th to be honest, the other 4 don't count because they were just tests in a room) had quite some surprising resonance... which was more because of the event, but also due to the DPstage0 ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXQEgJS82O0 )

Looking forward to hear from you,

Best, Alec

Magic Lantern is available for the 5D Mark ii but only if you donate.

Very nice that there are some time lapse shooters around Salzburg! Great video, I can see why you got good feedback!
Let us know when you're back in the area and want to meet up for a shot.

Hey Guys,
I'm planing to visit austria the comming winter and would like to do some nighttimelapse. Does anyone have some experience with dew droplets(Tautropfen) on the lense. Do u have to heat up the lense to avoid a wet lens/does it depend on the actual weather / or is it just dry enough in the higher alps ?

which time of the year are you visiting?
during summer it's ok... but the closer to winter or the higher you get the higher is the risk of dew..

To prevent lensdew, I use these reusable heat packs (Hiti):

http://www.rubytec.com/eng/winter-warmers-re-usable.php

They did a great job in the last few weeks in Patagonia and the Atacama Desset.

sorry for the late answer - didn't realise that somebody allready anwered my post!
@ holy_13: I'm visiting arround new years eve, so I guess I should be prepared for dew.
@ Borealis: thanks for the advice! I used some similar stuff in the Atacama as well - but in my case I was not sure if they had any effect at all because mine are cold after maybe 1-2 hours (and in the Atacama is now dew anyways). you think the hitis heat for a longer periode of time?

I use those and they work perfectly. Also the batteries last forever.

Hi and "Servus" from Austria aswell.

I'm David and I've started to shoot Timelapses a couple of month ago, aswell.

Based in the beautiful Millquater, Upper Austria.

@Saob: Yes, dew is a problem here in Austria. I bought a Kendrick Micro FireLite Controller Set, Which works pretty well.
