Powering GoPros for 4-5 days using a large battery?
Hey guys,
New user here, hope you can help.
We are basically trying to do a timelapse video on a location without a power outlet and need to be able to power our GoPro Hero 4's for 4-5 days at a time. Essentially we need some kind of battery system that will connect to the GoPro and keep it charged for that time period.
Has anyone done a similar type of project that might have any ideas?
Thanks,

GoPro cameras can be powered externally via the USB port. Have a look at the larger capacity Anker batteries these should do what you need. The downside is you have to use either the skeleton housing or frame housing to make the USB port accessible so you won't be waterproof any more....

They draw quite a bit of power, so if you want 4-5 days you will either need a high capacity battery like a car battery with a USB adaptor, or a mains power supply USB adaptor. I've done quite a few of them powering them with the USB cable. To get them weather proof I'll drill a hole in the side of the housing large enough to plug the usb cable directly into the camera through the housing, then use something like BluTak to seal the hole up around the cable.

Re: Powering GoPros for 4-5 days using a large battery?
I have gotten 3-4 days out of Hytron 140 battery. Connected it to a Switronix JetPack with a USB out. Put it in a $10 marine battery housing (from any hardware store and there are built in cable paths) and good to go. I have also used larger capacity Li-ion batteries with USB ports built into the side of them. Switronix makes these as well. I have these power solutions as part of my larger cinema kit.
I have also used a car battery with an inverter inside a marine housing. The inverter had a USB jack on it. Power lasted for a month at least. Much longer than I needed.

I have a waterproof back that powers via the multi pin slot on the back, not the usb. I ran it off 8 AAs for 5 hours at least, timelapse mode. It was on ebay for like $25
