3:2 or 16:9? Which to shoot stills in?
Hello, This is my first post. My timelapse system is finally assembled, and I plan to try it out this weekend.
I understand that my camera shoots in 3:2, and the finished timelapse video will be cropped to 16:9. If I perfectly compose the shot on my camera in 3:2, and then crop on my stills on my computer to 16:9, then I will be chopping off parts of the shot that may have been vital to the perfect composure in the first place. So: does anyone shoot their stills in 16:9 to ensure a perfect composure? Or, do you shoot in 3:2, and zoom out to ensure you have enough room to crop to a perfect composure? I feel like this issue will be compounded when considering 3 axis motion control. What do you do?
Thank you, Jordan

why not shoot 3:2 and frame for 16:9 so that you have some area to play with in terms of framing?

Does your camera allow you to show a 16:9 frame in the 3:2 viewfinder?

Re: 3:2 or 16:9? Which to shoot stills in?
Upon investigation, I found that my Canon T3i camera has an Aspect Ratio mode that can be set to 16:9. I assumed that this meant my camera would take 16:9 photographs, but in reality it only displays lines in 16:9 on my live-view LCD to allow for 16:9 framing. This is exactly what I want, and concludes this discussion Thank you.

My T3i will shoot at 3:2 when the LCD is closed but at 16:9 when it's open. I always close it to save battery power. It adds an extra step in post, but a few times it has allowed me to crop differently than I would have when setting up the shot.
